HISTORY fans can find out about how a park’s famous war memorial came to be created.

This Sunday all eyes will be on the Great War memorial in Greenhead Park. Hundreds will take part in the Remembrance Day service by the striking monument.

In the run-up to the event, the focus of the park’s last History Hour of the year will be on the stone memorial.

The free talk, organised by the Friends group, takes place tomorrow . It was unveiled to crowds on April 26, 1924. Local historian Anne Brook will be telling the story behind the building of the memorial.

The event runs from 12.30pm until 1.30pm in the park’s community room.
