GREENPEACE volunteers asked shoppers in town about their views on nuclear weapons.

They say the survey is important in the run-up to the General Election.

Mirfield volunteer Jeff Rice said: “We are asking people yes or no as to whether the government should be spending £97bn on new nuclear weapons.

“Then we will take the results to prospective parliamentary candidates to give people an opportunity to show their views.

“Greenpeace think it’s a waste of time and money and obviously it isn’t particularly a good thing for the world.

“So far 80% of people we’ve surveyed in Huddersfield have said no to more nuclear weapons.”

Volunteers surveyed people on King Street.
