GREENS are fighting every parliamentary seat in Kirklees and pledge to put people and the planet first.

They launched their manifesto with a demand for a better quality of life for people.

They say that means a safe environment, a fair world and good public services.

Voters will have the chance to back their policies by voting for Clive Lord in Batley and Spen, Lesley Hedges in Colne Valley, Brenda Smithson in Dewsbury, Clr Julie Stewart- Turner in Huddersfield or Derek Hardcastle in the Wakefield constituency, which includes Kirkburton and Denby Dale.

The party is expecting a breakthrough nationally and is tipped to gain its first MPs.

Colne Valley candidate Lesley Hedges said: "Local people are aware that our policies are fairer and more sustainable than the others.

"Other parties claim to be concerned for the environment, but let people down as soon as they are in power."

Huddersfield candidate Clr Julie Stewart- Turner said: "It is looking very, very good for us.

"A lot of people are disillusioned with Labour yet do not believe the Tories or Lib Dems are a solution."
