THE Green Party in Kirklees has issued a new recycling call.

Members say: "We need to aim for zero waste."

Three Green Party councillors have outlined plans that would mean zero waste in Kirklees was achieved in 15 years.

Currently, 16,300 Kirklees homes do not even have access to a green recycling bin.

Derek Hardcastle, a prospective candidate for Kirkburton in the June Kirklees elections, said: "We can use the three principles of reduce, re-use and recycle until we have dealt with all the waste in the area."

Although Kirklees is ahead of most councils, the UK trails behind many other countries when it comes to dealing with waste.

The Green Party also says that adopting a zero waste policy would lead to the creation of at least 50,000 jobs nationally.

They also say a US said the recycling industry brings in $236bn a year.

Mr Hardcastle said: "A green economy is a profitable one."
