TEN years of the University of the First Age has been celebrated in Huddersfield.

Current and former members of the group attended an event to celebrate its first decade.

The UFA works with young people to develop their confidence, achievements and potential.

A spokesman for the group said: “From modest beginnings in 1998, the UFA has gradually grown and developed in communities and schools.

“Key successes in Kirklees have been the UFA fellowship training programme, peer mentor development and summer challenges for secondary, primary and special school students.”

Youngsters throughout Kirklees were given the chance to take part in a series of drama, art, music and outdoor workshops.

From sports coaching to fashion courses, students took part in the summer challenge which aims to give young people more skills and knowledge of different subjects.
