BUS passes and pensions were at the top of the agenda for the Huddersfield and District Pensioners Organisation.

The campaign and sociable group held its annual general meeting, including a report on the past year.

Chairman Noreen Logan spoke about a successful year which had seen the group’s membership increase.

Mrs Logan also talked about the introduction of the free bus pass for all pensioners. However, she criticised the government’s refusal to link earnings to pensions.

She added that members of the Huddersfield group due to attend the Pensioners Parliament in Blackpool later this year would not be celebrating the centenary of the pension, saying improvements needed to be made.

Officers for the forthcoming year are chairman Noreen Logan, vice-chairman Sandra Oliver, treasurer Betty Robshaw, secretary Barbara Hanson, membership secretary Peggy Iredale, refreshments secretary Barbara Beevers, fundraiser Hilda Hobson and press officer Jean Lorriman.

The group meets to discuss health, pensions, transport, housing and leisure issues for pensioners.

Meetings take place on the third Thursday in every month at the St Patrick’s Centre, New North Parade, at 1pm.
