CHRISTMAS came early for three Huddersfield groups when a local supermarket presented them with decorations.
Reams of colourful tinsel was handed to Slaithwaite-based Meadow Court Residential Home, Brackenhall Community Centre and Almondbury Sports Centre.
Staff at the Market Street store of Sainsbury’s came up with the idea after taking down last year’s decorations.
Finding themselves with an office full of the festive designs, they put an appeal in the Examiner for groups who could make use of them to come forward.
The groups are now looking forward to giving their centres an extra sparkle this Christmas time.
Mary Kitchen, from the store, said: “We had a massive amount of decorations left over which we didn’t have to keep for this year.
“We thought why trash them when there could be somebody out there who could put them to good use and give others a bit of joy.
“We decided to offer them to local groups and they were absolutely delighted with them.
“The decorations are going to used everywhere, from decorating the foyer of a community centre to the inside of a residential home.”
