COMMUNITY groups have received Lottery grants to help them carry on the good work.

The money came from Lottery scheme Awards for All.

In all, 14 Kirklees groups got money ranging from £500 to £5,000.

Kirkburton Cricket Sports and Social Club got £5,000 for new all-weather cricket practice facilities.

Local writers', musicians' and artists' group The Word Hoard Limited were given £4,750.

They will use the award to run two video projects based around personal experience and the local urban environment.

Marsden Jazz Festival Limited will use their award of £4,900 to run a master class for young people at their festival this summer.

The Friends of Slaithwaite Spa have been rewarded £4,925 to restore and improve features at the site of the spa.

They will use the award to restore a section of the river walk by re-installing steps down the river and creating a viewing and paddling platform.

Kirklees Swimming Club has been rewarded with £5,000 to buy swimming equipment to improve pool facilities.

Other Kirklees groups to receive grants were:

Kirklees Congolese Community Organisation, £3,620; Heckmondwike Grammar School, £3,084; North Kirklees Mind, £5,000; Westtown Women's Forum, £4,940; Soundjata Promotions, £5,000; Flockton Cricket Club, £5,000; Skelmanthorpe Skate Park, £5,000; Reading and Arts Forum, £5,000.
