CAPITAL cities of the world was the theme for a fundraising event staged by West Yorkshire Townswomen's Guilds.

Members of five guilds in the district, took a capital city as their theme to decorate stalls selling a variety of items.

The Lepton Guild won the contest, with Mirfield second.

Other guilds were Lindley Tower, Woodhouse and Almondbury.

Pam Pollock, national chairman, presented a trophy to the stall judged to be the best-dressed.

Kirklees Mayor Clr Margaret Fearnley was among guests at the event, which was held at Greenhead Masonic Hall, Greenhead.

The event included raffles, refreshments and a cake stall.

There were also talks by guest speakers Moira Marshall and Ted Duggan. Mrs Marshall spoke about Japan and Mr Duggan gave a talk on Moscow and St Petersburg.
