TWO-hundred people from 13 guitar orchestras will take part in the fifth Kirklees Guitar Orchestra Competition later this month.

The contest will take place at Batley Salvation Army Citadel on Saturday November 27.

Its entrants include guitarists from Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Cambridge, and Doncaster.

Eric Tebbett will lead judging along with the Brazilian-influenced Eden-Stell Guitar Duo, who perform at the Citadel on the evening before the contest.

Individual performances start at 12.15pm and judging at 5pm.

Prizes will be awarded by Kirklees mayor Clr Mary Harkin.

Winning entrants perform in concert at 6pm.

The show will also feature a recital by Guitarstrophe! an internationally-renowned guitar orchestra from Western Australia which starts its European Tour at the venue.

Tickets for the competition, evening concert and meal cost £8 in advance. Entry to the evening concert costs £3 on the door.

costs £5 or £4 with concessions.

The contest is being organised by David and Janet Robinson, teachers at Kirklees Music School.
