THREE men charged in connection with a robbery in which a jeweller shot dead in her family shop were appearing at Nottingham Crown Court today.

Marian Bates, 64, was gunned down as she tried to protect her daughter from intruders in the store in Arnold, Nottingham.

Peter Williams, 18, of no fixed address, is charged with Mrs Bates's murder last September at the Time Centre, causing grievous bodily harm to her husband Victor and possessing a firearm with intent.

Craig Moran, 22, of Bestwood, and Dean Betton, 23, of Broxtowe, are charged with conspiracy to rob the store.

The three men all pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing and were remanded in custody.

They will appear at Nottingham Crown Court today for a directions hearing before Mr Justice Goldring.
