A LONE gunman held up a Dalton shop just as staff were about to lock up.

The robber walked into the One Stop Shop at Broad Lane at 10.40pm last night as the three staff members – two men aged 20 and a 25-year-old – were about to shut up for the night.

The raider held a handgun to the head of one of the staff and demanded cash.

He pistol-whipped another of the staff on his head and cash was stolen from the till.

The gunman then escaped.

He was described as a mixed race man in his early 20s, around 5ft 9ins tall.

He wore a dark bandana around his face, a dark hooded top, dark bottoms and a dark baseball cap.

Det Con Russ Conlon of Kirklees CID intelligence unit said: “Any robbery such as this which involves a weapon is treated extremely seriously and we would appeal for anyone who saw the robber hanging around before the robbery or escaping afterwards to contact us immediately along with anyone else who may know who he is.’’
