GUNSHOT residue was found on the jacket of a Huddersfield man on trial for attempted murder, a court heard.

A forensic scientist discovered more than 100 particles of gunshot on James Collier’s white top, it was said.

Experts also said the same type of residue was discovered in a getaway car, a Ford Escort, Collier was allegedly seen getting into minutes after the shooting on Cross Church Street in the town centre on April 22, 2006.

Forensic scientist Dominic Miller said he believed the two types of residue came from the same incident.

CCTV footage shows a man alleged to be Collier standing alongside Carl Hughes and Bradley Okoro when the gun was fired, allegedly by Okoro.

Hughes, 31, of Abbey Road, Fartown, Collier, 27, of Stoney Cross Street, Taylor Hill, and Okoro, 22, of New Hey Road, Oakes, are all charged with the attempted murder of Sheffield man Damian Munroe, 28.

The three men deny attempted murder, as well as charges of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, violent disorder and possessing a firearm.

Mr Miller said: “Gunshot residue can be found on a person standing within two to three metres of a gun being fired.

“It cannot disintegrate or evaporate.”

Tests show that more that 100 particles remained on the white zip-up top.

Residue believed to be from the same incident was also found in the Ford while the same type of residue was also discovered in the Jeep driven by Mr Munroe and on his clothing.

Mr Miller added: “The presence of a very high level of firearm discharge residue could be explained if the white zip-up top had been within two metres of the gun when it was discharged.

“The moderate level found on the rear nearside of the vehicle could have come from a person who had been in contact with firearms residue being there.”

The court also heard that the same gunshot residue was found on the denim jacket of a fourth man not involved with the trial.

Members of the jury then watched unedited CCTV footage showing the movements of Collier, Okoro and Hughes on the night of April 21 and early hours of April 22.

It shows them arriving at the Revolution bar on Cross Church Street shortly before 10.20pm. They are also seen entering and leaving the Visage and Ethos nightclub at Folly Hall before arriving back at Cross Church Street minutes before the shooting, which was at about 3.55am.

The case continues.
