STAFF at a Huddersfield gym hope to make Christmas special for children who are not at home.

Total Fitness on Wakefield Road, Waterloo, is acting as a collection point, where people can drop off toys and gifts.

The items will brighten up Christmas for youngsters in children's homes, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospice in Leeds.

Total Fitness membership supervisor Louise Frost said: "We are giving out gifts to children aged up to 15.

"So we need as wide a range of gifts as possible.

"We do things on a regular basis. For example, we collected Easter eggs for children in the spring. The idea is to brighten up life for them."

Gifts can be dropped off at Total Fitness up to Christmas week.

As a thank-you to anyone who provides a gift, Total Fitness will give a free pass for two adults and two children to use the centre's facilities for a day.
