HE may only be six, but young Edward Greaves is already a fundraising star.

Edward, of Hade Edge, raised cash for Kidney Research UK by completing the 1.8km Manchester Mini Run last Saturday.

The event was part of the Manchester 10k, which Edward’s mum, Victoria, completed on the Sunday, also for Kidney Research UK.

They collected £250 in total.

Victoria, 39, said: “Most of the money was raised by Edward. He did so well.”

Edward, who attends The Mount School at Edgerton, was inspired to run when his mum raised £1,000 for Kidney Research UK doing the Great North Run last year.

She also completed the 2008 Manchester 10k run, raising £234.

Now, Victoria plans to raise more funds by hosting a birthday ball at Bertie’s Banqueting Rooms in Elland on June 5.

The event has a purple theme, to match Kidney Research UK’s logo.

Victoria, also mum to William, 16, and three-year-old daughter Charlotte, said: “Kidney problems can affect so many people from all groups.

“In my 40th year, rather than it being all about me I want to give something back.”

The ball will include a raffle with prizes including a signed first team shirt from recently retired Huddersfield Town player Andy Booth.
