HADE Edge residents were yesterday caught ignoring speed limits in their own village.
Police conducting speed checks found many of the cars were ignoring the 30mph limit in the area – with one speeding at 57mph yesterday morning.
Between 7.10am and 8.30am some 55 cars were checked and just 14 were sticking to the limit.
A further 25 cars were over the speed limit doing between 31 and 39 mph, 14 cars were speeding at between 40 and 49 mph and two motorists were driving at speeds of more than 50mph, including one at 57mph.
A spokesman for the police said the first round of speed checks were done by plain clothes officers to assess what the situation was because drivers tend to slow down when they see a police car.
But they will return with traffic officers to hand out speeding fines as part of a second phase of checks.
