STAFF and customers from a Slaithwaite hairdressing salon have raised £5,500 to help a Cowlersley teenager get pioneering treatment for cerebral palsy.
Julie Earnshaw, owner of The Salon at Britannia Road, organised a charity ball at the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield, to raise funds for 16-year-old Thomas Holten.
Thomas suffers from cerebral palsy and the money will pay for a muscle therapist from the Peto Institute in Hungary to come and give him treatment.
The institute has pioneering treatments to help people like Thomas maintain mobility and live a more active and independent life.
Staff from The Salon helped Mrs Earnshaw to organise the ball and customers donated raffle prizes – including a weekend for two in London, a Jimmy Choo bag worth £1,300 and an estate agent’s fee from a house sale.
The band Still No Name and DJ Ashley, who entertained at the ball, also donated their services for free.
Mrs Earnshaw, who is a friend of Thomas’s family, even auctioned herself off as a slave for the day.
