A festival of flowers will see an historic Halifax landmark meeting its Waterloo.

Halifax Minster will be the magnificent setting for a feast of floral displays when the ancient parish church and Halifax Flower Club join forces to stage a Flower Festival.

The colourful event will take place from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21 and celebrate the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment and commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo (1815 to 2015.)

The Minster promises to be a floral extravaganza with flower arrangements, trees and even a life-size willow sculpture of a horse, filling every corner.

Canon Hilary Barber, Vicar of Halifax Minster said: “I’m delighted the Minster is able to host this special festival to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

“Halifax Minster is the spiritual home of the former Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, now part of the Yorkshire 1st battalion.

“The Duke’s recruited most of the men who went to fight from Halifax and West Yorkshire. It feels right as the Colours hang in the Minster we should still remember those who gave their lives all those years ago.”
