ROMANCE blossomed at a Brighouse factory for Netheroyd Hill diamond wedding couple Geoffrey and Hazel Kershaw.

The couple married at Brighouse Parish Church 60 years ago.

Mr Kershaw, 82, worked as a pattern cutter at Blakeborough's factory in Brighouse. It was there he met his wife-to-be who worked in the accounts department.

Mrs Kershaw, 80, said: "I had only just left school and that was that. He snapped me up!"

They later ran a small sweet shop in Elland together for two years before moving to Halifax.

They briefly moved back to Brighouse before buying a newsagents in Kirkburton. They lived in the village for 20 years, then moved to Netheroyd Hill 24 years ago.

Mr Kershaw also taught at Shelley High School for eight years before retirement.

The couple have three sons and six grandchildren. They held a party at Brighouse Civic Hall.
