THEY put in a lot of hard work in the summer.

And that pre-season effort by Works League side Moldgreen Conservative is starting to pay off.

The season may be in its infancy but in their two games to date, which have resulted in two comfortable victories, they have shown enough to suggest they could be a force to be reckoned with.

The side run by the experienced Andy Senior followed up their win at Berry Brow with a 3-0 home victory over Hepworth United.

That’s a good result as Hepworth are always a hard side to beat.

In fact it was the Holme Valley side who had the edge in the opening exchanges at Almondbury but they could not find a way through the resolute home defence.

It was against the run of play that Moldgreen went ahead before the break with a goal from West.

But after the interval the home side took charge.

Referee Ian Daffern, who had a fine game, awarded Moldgreen a penalty for a foul and West made no mistake from the spot.

The same player had the chance to make it 3-0 with a second penalty, but missed.

Hepworth pushed forward to try and get back into the game but Moldgreen left no gaps and took advantage of poor defensive marking to make it 3-0 through Stead and a share of top spot in the fledgling league table.

Uppermill are fielding two sides in the league this season and their first-team squad again looks strong.

They proved far too good for Walpole Community Centre, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Bainbridge (2) and Roberts.

There was also a hard-earned 2-1 win for Lindley Lib against Berry Brow. Green and Ray were on target for Lindley, while Hever got Brow’s goal.

In Division II, Bay Athletic made it two wins out of two with victory over Netherton.

They won 2-1, with goals from Alexander and Allette.
