LOVE is ... making sweet music together.

Now husband and wife team Shaun and Ann Jackson plan to do exactly that.

The musicians have teamed up to join the horn section of Slaithwaite Band.

For the past four years, Ann has made the long journey from the couple's home in Marsden to play the solo horn for the York-based Shepherd Building Group Band.

But now the couple have decided to become involved with a band closer to home.

Tempted by the musical successes of Slaithwaite Band they have decided to make the short trip down the Colne Valley.

Ann said: "I have enjoyed top-level banding for a long time, including appearances at the British Open and continental tours with bands such as Frickley, Marsden and Shepherds.

"Shaun and I were married last year, and as we are both horn players with a similar musical track record, our mutual interest in quality music- making has grown considerably.

"We were searching for a local band that shares our aspirations and Slaithwaite filled the bill perfectly." Shaun said: "We were impressed with the commitment and dedication of the Slaithwaite organisation.

"It's a band with a long history and is enjoying considerable success under Barry Hudson's leadership.

"Both Ann and I look forward to becoming totally integrated into the ensemble and making our joint contribution to the continuing progress of the band."

Mr Hudson, the band's musical director, said: "We are particularly pleased to have Ann and Shaun on board in time for the regional contest.

"They both know what Yorkshire banding is all about and have a wealth of experience to offer.

"We will be using their talents to the full after the contest as they settle into the rehearsals for our forthcoming concert schedule."
