Town player Kevin McHale recalls the time Harold appeared in the Terriers’ dressing room after an away win in the early 1960s.

They had just beaten Coventry 3-1 in the early 1960s and Kevin, who played outside right for the team, had just stepped out of the shower.

Now 76, he said: “We had no idea he was at the game. We had just had a shower and Harold was sat on the table in the middle of the room with his pipe going as usual. He said it had been a good game to watch. It was amazing he was there as he must have been very busy at that time.”

Kevin went on to work at David Brown tractors in Meltham for many years and now lives in Honley.

Harold certainly loved Town and is reputed to have carried a photo of the 1924-25 title winning team in his wallet.

He was also spotted at other sports events such as the Ryder Cup in 1965.
