Harold Wilson was a family man ... and his widow Mary has just celebrated her 100th birthday.

They married on New Year’s Day in 1940 when Britain’s future was very much in doubt with the rise of Hitler who was then sweeping through Europe.

The couple had two sons, Robin and Giles, and Robin will be in Huddersfield on Friday for a series of events to mark what would have been Harold's 100th birthday.

Here are some family photos to show a different side to one of Huddersfield’s best ever Prime Ministers.

Robin, an emeritus professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Open University, once said: “My grandparents on both sides were teachers and my father was a good economist. He just used to joke that there was too much back-stabbing in teaching so he went into politics instead.”
