LORRY drivers from across the country met a challenge in Huddersfield to raise cash for Kirkwood Hospice.

A total of £2,544 was raised when Huddersfield firm Hoyer UK, Leeds Road, held a competition to find the Lorry Driver of the Year.

Entrants had to show off their skills including manoeuvring, distance judging and finding vehicle defects in the competition.

Huddersfield driver Jim Blues was chosen as the winner.

Annabel Arkless, fundraising manager at Kirkwood Hospice, Dalton, said: "It is wonderful to have companies like Hoyer UK supporting the hospice.

"Their generosity will help the hospice care for local people who need our help."
