PUPILS got to grips with pots and pans as part of a scheme to get them cooking.

Thanks to a gift of more than 100 pieces of cooking equipment and ingredients from Sainsbury’s, the pupils at Honley High School will be able to create their own culinary masterpieces.

The Year 7 home economics class was the first to benefit after being provided with the new equipment.

Pupils were given advice on how to make simple recipes.

Year 11 pupils will be designing and creating pizzas later this week.

Teacher Sue Pinder said: “We will also be looking at the importance of labelling, as well as looking at the environmental affects of packaging.

“Healthy eating is also a big thing for us, so we will see how we can eat the foods we like and stay healthy.”

The manager of Sainsbury’s Shore Head store, Michael Broadhurst, gave a talk.

He also visited Kirkheaton Primary School.

Colin Meah, of the Market Street store, presented the children of Kirkburton Middle School with a new cooking kit.
