A DERELICT landmark could be taken away from its owners if they don’t revamp it soon.
Kirklees Council have warned the owners of Pioneer House in Dewsbury they will place a compulsory purchase order on the crumbling building if nothing is done.
The owners, Stayton, who bought the building in 2005, are fighting the move.
Stayton spokesman Anthony Poppleton said: “People in Dewsbury will see the scaffolding and think the work’s only been taking place for the last two months, but it’s been on-going on the inside.”
Plans remain to build shops on the ground floor and a restaurant on the first floor of the Northgate building.
The building would also have a tall glass tower that will be illuminated at night.
