A BIN fire in Brighouse threatened to spread to the town's health centre.

The incident took place at 1.45am today.

Firefighters found that flames from the waste paper bin had cracked a downstairs window at the health centre in Lawson Road.

Some of the rooms were smoke-logged.

The blaze, which is being treated as malicious, was spotted by patrolling police.

Huddersfield firefighters went to the blaze - of building rubble - in Bay Hall Common Road, Birkby, at 3.50am today.

The empty house, which is being renovated, suffered damage to windows and doors.

The J-registered Volkswagen Passat had broken down and been left by its owner in Blacker Road, Birkby.

The engine compartment caught fire and was badly damaged.
