A £1.5M health centre is being built in Waterloo.

Huddersfield Central Primary Care Trust has approved a plan for the centre, on the site of the existing Waterloo Surgery on Wakefield Road.

Work on the building is due to start soon and it should be opened next March.

Trust chairman Rob Napier said: "We are delighted with the plans.

"The new centre will be one of the finest in the area.

"It will offer a wider range of services to our patients in high-quality, modern surroundings."

GP Dr Hubert Nazareth said: "The centre will provide excellent facilities for modern day general practice.

"It will, we hope, attract and retain doctors and staff."

The new building will include spacious consulting rooms, large treatment rooms for use by nurses and a minor operations suite.

There will also be accommodation for health visitors, specialist nursing teams and visiting consultants.

The centre will also provide be facilities for training new doctors.

These facilities will include seminar and health education systems.
