A MAN who died at the weekend after apparently suffering a heart attack at the wheel of his car was well-known in the local sports community.

Dennis Bradley, of Lea Rise, Honley, died on Saturday near the Bay Horse Pub in Lindley.

He was a well-known figure in the sporting community, best known for his involvement with Brockholes Bowling Club.

Mr Bradley is believed to have suffered a heart attack before he smashed his Peugeot 206 car into another passing vehicle at Acre Street.

He was taken to nearby Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but was found to be dead on arrival.

The driver of the other vehicle, a silver Daihatsu Terios, was unharmed.

Insp Nick Dyson, of West Yorkshire Police, said Acre Street was sealed off by police for just over two hours after the tragedy.

He said: “We believe he had a heart attack, which resulted in a seizure which made him jam his foot on the accelerator.

“He then collided into the back of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Detectives sealed off the area between the Bay Horse pub and the hospital and it was reopened at 4.40pm.”

Mr Bradley’s wife Sheila and their children were informed of the tragedy and an inquest into his death was due to be opened by the Huddersfield coroner today.

Members of Brockholes Bowling Club were last night devastated by his death.

Member Carl Beaumont paid tribute to Mr Bradley last night

He said: “He was a smashing fellow, a very good person.

“He was very well-known and was a very dedicated member of the club and he was particularly known for his involvement with junior bowling.

“He was in his 70s, but he was still an active member and was club president up to this year.

“He had suffered from ill health, but we are still all shocked by his death.”
