Prickly visitors

MORE than a quarter of Huddersfield gardens regularly have visiting hedgehogs. A new survey by the RSPB revealed that thousands of gardens have hedgehogs. Experts believe the high numbers of hedgehogs in gardens prove what a refuge they can be, as a loss of quality hedgehog habitat in the countryside makes it increasingly difficult for them to survive further afield. Participants in the summer wildlife survey doubled in 2010 with more than 90,000 people across the country counting the birds and mammals in almost 70,000 gardens.
