A SLAITHWAITE farmer has scooped the top award at Holmfirth Cattle Market's Christmas Show.
Brian Shaw, 36, won supreme champion with a 20-month-old Belgian blue heifer.
The cow was sold to wholesale Marsden butcher Elvin Eastwood before going to Meltham butcher G Haigh.
Tim Coy, group secretary of the National Farmer's Union in Huddersfield, said: "It's unusual these days to find such a keen young farmer as Brian."
Mr Shaw is married to Debra and the couple have two children, five-year-old Sam and three-year-old Anna.
He has 450 beef cattle and 200 breeding ewes at his farm near Holt Head.
He said: "I've been farming since I left school and by raising the cattle locally and then selling it to local butchers people can be sure of its quality."
