PEOPLE suffering from cold-related or respiratory illness may be eligible for free home improvement measures.
The Health Action for Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield (HACKW) scheme is for householders whose health suffers because of cold or damp living conditions.
They can benefit from having measures professionally installed, such as loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, draught- proofing and heat recovery ventilation.
To qualify, householders must have a simple application form end- orsed by a health professional explaining how cold living conditions or poor ventilation adversely affect their health.
Home health visitors, practice nurses and midwifes can all make referrals for the scheme.
Householders can refer themselves for the scheme, but the endorsement from a health professional is still needed.
Anyone who wants an application form or to find out more about the scheme should contact the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on 0800 052 7496 or Kirklees Council energy efficiency officer Matthew Greensmith on 01484 223602.
