A PASSERBY helped a teenager who was being mugged in Paddock.

The 17-year-old victim was using his mobile phone at a bus stop on Market Street when he saw the thief coming towards him at 6.50pm yesterday.

He felt uneasy and put the phone in his inside pocket.

But the mugger demanded the phone and started to search him.

The attacker hit the teenager on the head and the victim yelled for help.

A 23-year-old Newsome man walking nearby heard him and went to see what was going on.

The mugger then fled empty-handed and got in a white car which already had four other people in it.

Police today issued a description of the attacker.

He is white, aged 17 or 18, 5ft 10ins and skinny with short mousy hair and a small bar in his pierced left eyebrow.

He wore a khaki fleece, blue jeans and white trainers.

Anyone who knows who he is should contact Pc Andy Mellor at Huddersfield CID on 01484 436582.
