HELP is at hand for Huddersfield residents at risk of losing their homes.

Thousands of people in Yorkshire and Humberside have been helped to avoid losing their homes by a legal aid funded emergency service.

The service provides last minute help to people facing eviction or repossession.

The service, run by the Legal Services Commission (LSC), one of which is based in Huddersfield County Court, provides free, immediate legal advice and representation to individuals appearing in court who are at risk of losing their home.

The help comes amid news that mortgage possessions for Huddersfield for the first quarter of 2009 have decreased by 50%, compared to last year.

Julie Parkin, LSC area relationship manager for Yorkshire and Humberside, said: “The repercussions of the recent economic downturn have affected many people in Huddersfield, and many are now struggling to make their mortgage or rent payments.

“The fact the Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme has been able to help so many people is wonderful news.”
