RESIDENTS have been urged to support their local bus service.
The Colne Valley Taxi Bus links Wilberlee, Pole Moor and Scapegoat Hill to Slaithwaite and Outlane.
It also deviates from its route to collect or drop off passengers. During off-peak times it can also be called by passengers to pick them up at a pre-arranged time.
The service secured a £28,000 lifeline from Kirklees Council and Metro last month, which will keep it on the road until January, 2009.
But Clr Nicola Turner has warned that residents need to support the bus if it is to have a long-term future. She handed out leaflets in Slaithwaite on Monday urging people to use the service.
The Colne Valley Lib Dem said: “I will personally be delivering 3,000 letters by hand to valley homes. The message we’re trying to get across is clear: If you think the taxi bus service is important and you want it to stay, then get on board and use it.
“It won’t be easy but this is a vital rural service that has all sorts of benefits for the community but also for the environment, highways and local economies.
“Thankfully everyone involved is 100% committed to making sure that the Taxi Bus will be here in the years to come.”
