A COMMITTEE is needed to help decide how Rastrick spends its £1m lottery windfall.

A group will be formed to carry out the administration on behalf of the wider community – and they’re looking for people to join it.

The town was awarded £1m from the Big Lottery Fund as part of its Big Local scheme.

Clr Christine Beal told the local ward forum: “At the last meeting lots of people came with ideas and it was agreed we’d form a smaller Steering Group to take those ideas forward.

“We need someone to do the admin and arrange meetings, to bring ideas together and make the decisions.

They will feed back to the wider group.

“We’ve got £20,000 to spend on putting plans in place for the £1m, that will go on posters, events and questionnaires for everyone to get them involved and to encourage more ideas on how we can spend the £1m and improve Rastrick.”

As a result of the meetings so far, Pennine Housing are improving signs on their properties, which won’t use any of the £1m windfall.

They will work with school children from nearby schools to design the signs.

Anyone interested in joining the Steering Group is asked to attend Rastrick Bowling Club tomorrow at 7pm.

A further meeting takes place on August 15 for all Rastrick residents and members of community groups to attend and have their say on how the money could be best spent.
