MULTI-million pound plans have been lodged to change the face of Huddersfield.
There are schemes for Kingsgate, Queensgate, St George’s Square and Southgate.
But now Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman has challenged young people in the town: Tell me what YOU want.
The long-serving MP has urged youngsters to come up with their own designs for the town centre.
And he is offering prizes for the best designs, which can be as serious or as wacky as the young designers want.
Mr Sheerman said: “A lot of people have put in a lot of time and effort in coming up with the ambitious plans aimed at the regeneration of Huddersfield.
“But I want to know what the young people of the town want.
“They are the ones who will be growing up in this town in the years to come.
“They will want to use the shops, the bars, the theatres, the sports centres and the other facilities.
“That’s why I am challenging them to come up with their ideas and designs.
“I’d like to make it into a competition because I am sure there are many young people in Huddersfield with exciting ideas.”
There is a prize of £500 which will go to the young designer’s school in the Under 14 age range, and a second prize of a lunch or dinner on the House of Commons Terrace, overlooking the Thames, for the winning designer in the Over 14 section.
Entries should be sent to Mr Barry Sheerman c/o The House of Commons, Westminster, London, by August 31.
