HUDDERSFIELD people are being urged to recycle their old Christmas cards in a bid to help tree planting.

Special recycling bins have been set-up at all WH Smith and Tesco stores across the country to encourage people to recycle unwanted cards.

The scheme, organised by the conservation charity Woodland Trust, will see bins in all stores throughout January.

Last year 45 million cards amounting to 883 tonnes were recycled as part of the scheme.

Penny Pulfrey, of the Woodland Trust, said: "We would be delighted to see as many cards as possible recycled by the scheme.

"Not only is it helping the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, it is also supporting our new tree planting campaign."
