A LEADING figure in Huddersfield's Hindu community has received an award.
Kiran Bali, 27, is a national finalist in the Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour after winning a regional heat.
She has received £250 in shopping vouchers for herself and £500 for a charity of her choice.
Kiran, of Ripon Avenue, Fartown will attend the national finals in London in October.
"It is nice to get a bit of recognition for the work which I do in the voluntary sector, as well as raising the profile of Huddersfield," said Kiran, who works as a software developer.
"I try to make a difference in the community I live in."
Kiran is general secretary of the Hindu Society of Kirklees and Calderdale and is on the board of Kirklees Racial Equality Council.
She is also a voluntary worker for other groups.
