ROBERT Broadbent has spent many years researching his family history.

Now, he wants to help other Huddersfield people do the same.

Mr Broadbent, of Pole Moor, plans to launch family history workshops in January, which he will run from his home.

He lives at former pub, the Launds Inn, on the isolated Rochdale Road, where his family has been based for more than 1,000 years.

He has just finished the first phase of converting parts of the inn into a museum dedicated to the history of the Broadbents.

It also contains reams of historical information about Pole Moor, the Colne Valley, Scammonden, Broad Lea and the Luddites.

Mr Broadbent gathered most of his information from family documents, local museums, parish registers and libraries.

He said tracing your family history can be a difficult task.

He said: "It is hard to find things out when you have never done it before. That's why I'm running a five-week course for beginners."

The course will cost £49, or £10 for each session.
