A WIND turbine will be built at a farm in the Holme Valley.

Kirklees Council’s Huddersfield Planning Sub-committee voted eight to four yesterday to allow Wendy Walker to install a 15-metre turbine at her farm on Bedding Edge Road outside Hepworth.

The 10 kilowatt windmill will generate 31,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

Kirkburton Conservative Clr Christine Smith spoke against the development, saying solar panels would be a better way of generating electricity.

But Labour’s Clr Molly Walton of Crosland Moor and Netherton said she thought turbines were “graceful”.

Newsome Green Clr Andrew Cooper also backed the development.

“Some people believe that wind turbines add to a landscape,” he said.

A proposal to set up another turbine in Cumberworth was deferred yesterday.

James Peace is looking for permission to build a 15-metre windmill at Meadow Nook Farm on Haddingley Lane.

Seven residents have objected, saying the windmill would damage the look of the area; would cause noise pollution and would reduce the value of other homes in the area.
