AN HISTORIC train will pass through Huddersfield for the first time in more than a decade.

Green Express Railtours are running a special train along the Penistone Line for the first time since 1998.

The 11-coach train, which dates from the 1950s, will call at Huddersfield on April 11.

Green Express Railtours spokesman Nick Harvey said: “We used to run a couple of excursion trains each year between 1989 and 1998. However, we had to stop because a restriction on large trains was imposed at Paddock viaduct. Works have now been carried out allowing us to put the trains on again.”

The train will call at Huddersfield, Honley, Shepley, Denby Dale, Penistone, Barnsley and Sheffield before stopping at Stratford-upon-Avon and then Oxford.

Tickets for the day trip cost £47 return. Call 01723 891 400.
