A PLUMBER was praised for his bravery after tackling a house fire in Rastrick.

The plumber was working at another house in Ridge Lea when he saw smoke coming from the nearby property.

He grabbed a fire extinguisher from his van and ran to the house to find flames pouring from the utility room.

The blaze had started in a tumble dryer which had overheated.

Brighouse firefighters were called to the house and cleared it of smoke.

A spokesman said: "The plumber did a great job and was very brave.

"There were two people in the house but they were unaware of the fire in the utility room because the door was closed.

"That was why the smoke detectors did not go off and alert them to the fire".

The utility room was badly damaged by heat and smoke.
