POLICE are appealing for information after a lorry containing potentially hazardous chemicals was stolen.

The white Scania curtain sided wagon was taken from a chemical plant in Dewsbury on Monday.

It was carrying 1,000 litres of sodium hypochlorite, a bleach, and 4,000 litres of sodium hydroxide, a caustic soda used in manufacturing.

The 23-tonne wagon also contained 3,000 litres of hydrochloric acid, a strong mineral acid used in industry and 500kg of thiourea dioxide, which is used in textiles.

The chemicals can be harmful as they are corrosive and can burn the skin.

The vehicle – reg YJ03 CNX – was stolen just before 10am from the plant on Mill Street East.

Police want any witnesses or anyone who has information about the theft to contact them.

They are also appealing for the public not to approach the vehicle if they find it abandoned because of the chemicals within.

Anyone with information should contact DC Maxine Coulson-Robinson at Dewsbury CID via 101.
