High demand has led leisure centre bosses to urge parents to book for Huddersfield’s new Splash Park.

Several parents have been turned away from the fun pool of the £36m leisure centre in recent days.

Some contacted the Examiner after turning up and being told they faced a lengthy wait to use the children’s pool, managed by Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL).

Sessions are 90 minutes and are controlled by coloured wrist bands.

A PR spokesman for the leisure centre said: “As expected, the Splash Park has proved hugely popular since opening.

“Demand has been very high, and, even though the capacity for the Splash Park is 200+, sessions are selling out fast so KAL would strongly advise all customers to please book in advance before travelling to the centre.

“People can also turn up on the day and use the Splash Park if there is space but KAL would certainly recommend booking in advance if at all possible so that a guaranteed space is allocated and to avoid a long wait. This would avoid disappointment if the Splash Park is full upon arrival and if customers would then need a long wait for the next available session.”

Parents need to pay when they book which means they can use the ‘fast track’ queue at the leisure centre.
