COWCLIFFE Playgroup has won high praise from Ofsted education inspectors.

The playgroup received an `outstanding practice' grade for its work in creating policies and procedures that reflect the needs, safety and well-being of its children.

The inspector told staff it was the only outstanding practice grade she personally had given in Kirklees in the past three years. However, other schools and playgroups have received outstanding practice grades.

A Kirklees Council education spokeswoman said: "It is an excellent report and good news. Very rarely do inspectors use the word outstanding."

Overall, Cowcliffe Playgroup received a `good' rating for its education provision.

Angela Glover, vice-chairman of the playgroup, said: "It is the result of a huge team effort."

Mrs Glover said the only criticism made was about the suitability of the playgroup's building.

It has operated from an old Scout hall building for the past 36 years, but the playgroup soon hopes to move to a purpose-built home in the grounds of Fixby Junior and Infant School at Lightridge Road.
