THREE state-of-the-art super schools could be built in Huddersfield over the next decade under new three billion pound education plans.

Proposals announced by school standards minister David Miliband mean that by 2016 at least three new high-tech centres of learning will be on the map in our area as part of extensive spending plans.

Promising benefits for every pupil, Mr Miliband said in the shorter term, the next three years would see record levels of investment poured into education, with primary schools getting around an extra £34,000 a year and secondary schools getting over £100,000.

The money to transform school buildings will be channelled through the Building Schools For The Future (BSF) programme.

Mr Miliband said: "Investment in our schools is investment in our future.

"The unprecedented levels of funding that I am delighted to announce will provide real benefits for every pupil in every school in Yorkshire and the Humber."
