A MAN has been fined after driving alone with only a provisional licence.

Usman Rasul, of Belmont Street, Highfields, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

The 21-year-old admitted driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a vehicle without insurance.

Paul Ramsay, prosecuting, said that on May 7 police officers stopped Rasul’s Fiat Stilo near Lockwood Petrol Station.

He said the officers had cause to stop the vehicle due to reports about a separate incident.

The prosecution said that during this conversation it transpired that Rasul held only a provisional licence and wasn’t insured to drive the vehicle.

He told police that the car belonged to his wife.

Marnat Ali, defending, said: “On the day there was an incident and he was assisting another individual being assaulted.

“That’s why he spoke to police, there were no problems with his driving.”

Magistrates endorsed Rasul’s driving licence with six penalty points.

They also ordered him to pay £125 fine and £15 victim surcharge.
