IT cost the equivalent of 25p new.

But now, nearly 90 years later, a rare 1922 Huddersfield Town FA Cup final ticket is set to fetch up to £1,500 at an auction.

The ticket, coming up for sale at Bonhams in Chester on February 24, is a particularly valuable Huddersfield memento, because it was at that final at Stamford Bridge on April 29,1922, that Town won the FA Cup for the first – and so far only –- time in the club's history.

It was also the last final played before FA Cup finals were staged – for the first time in 1923 – at Wembley Stadium.

It was also the first FA Cup final decided by a penalty.

It looked as if the match was going to end in a goal-less draw until the 67th minute when Huddersfield's outside left, Billy Smith, was brought down by a Preston North End defender. Huddersfield were awarded a penalty and Smith scored.
