A SCHOOLGIRL is to cycle from dawn to dusk to raise cash for Haiti earthquake relief.

Holly McCall, 12, of Mirfield, is to ride the Calder and Spen Valley greenways to raise money for ActionAid, a charity which supplies shelter, water and medicines as well as long-term support for victims of natural disasters.

Holly, who attends Mirfield Free Grammar School, will start her ride at 7am on March 6 and carry on until dusk.

The 7.0 scale earthquake struck 12 miles from the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince killing about 230,000 people and leaving one million homeless.

Holly’s dad Steve McCall, 38, will be accompanying her on the journey.

Steve, a member of Ravensthorpe Cycling Club said: “She going to ride as far as she can get before it gets dark or exhaustion sets in and she falls off her bike!

“I love playing out on my bike and so does she, so we’re both looking forward to it.”
